Wind: Ganaraska

Ganaraska location

Capstone expects to own a 50% interest in the ZEP Wind Farm Ganaraska project alongside a financial partner.

The ZEP Wind Farm Ganaraska project will generate clean, renewable energy for the local grid, displacing greenhouse gases, air pollution and toxic wastes produced by traditional energy sources. It's estimated that the wind farm will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 6, 000 homes annually.

In comparison to other forms of electricity generation, wind energy is:

·        Renewable, efficient and complementary to other sources of electricity such as hydro, solar and natural gas

·        Emission-free, thereby helping to mitigate climate change

·        Helping to conserve water resources as water is not consumed in the generation of electricity

·        Associated with few environmental effects

As a result, the project will benefit the natural environment in the municipality and province overall while helping Ontario to meet future electricity demand.

Canada’s current installed capacity is just over 8,000 MW, generating the equivalent electricity consumed by an average of 2 million Canadian homes.

We are committed to socially and environmentally sustainable practices in every aspect of our business.  Our goal is to foster a positive culture that is respectful of our partners, customers and communities and to maintain open, mutually beneficial relationships with all stakeholders.

Welcome to the project announcements page. The proposed ZEP Wind Farm Ganaraska project is subject to provincial approval under Part V.0.1 of the Environmental Protection Act (O. Reg. 359/09). Under the regulation, the 17.60 megawatt (MW) project is defined as a Class 4 wind facility. The project will consist of nine (9) Senvion (formerly named REpower) MM92 wind turbines, which will have a nameplate capacity of 2.05 MW or 1.88 MW and a hub height of 100 metres. In addition to the wind turbines, the project will also include access roads, an electrical collection system, a substation, and temporary construction facilities. The project is located in the Municipality of Clarington, Ontario near the town of Orono.
