The Settlers Landing Wind Park will generate clean, renewable energy for the local grid, displacing greenhouse gases, air pollution and toxic wastes produced by traditional energy sources. It's estimated that the wind farm will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 6,000 homes annually.
In comparison to other forms of electricity generation, wind energy is:
· Renewable, efficient and complementary to other sources of electricity such as hydro, solar and natural gas
· Emission-free, thereby helping to mitigate climate change
· Helping to conserve water resources as water is not consumed in the generation of electricity
· Associated with few environmental effects
As a result, the project will benefit the natural environment in the municipality and province overall while helping Ontario to meet future electricity demand.
Canada’s current installed capacity is just over 8,000 MW, generating the equivalent electricity consumed by an average of 2 million Canadian homes.
We are committed to socially and environmentally sustainable practices in every aspect of our business. Our goal is to foster a positive culture that is respectful of our partners, customers and communities and to maintain open, mutually beneficial relationships with all stakeholders.
Welcome to the project announcements page. The proposed Settlers Landing Wind Park project is subject to provincial approvals under Part V.0.1 of the Environmental Protection Act (O. Reg. 359/09). Hydrogeological Impact Assessment and Oak Ridges
Moraine Conservation Plan Conformity Review
This report summarizes the results of a hydrogeological assessment conducted for the Settlers Landing and
Snowy Ridge Wind Parks ("the Projects"). The objective of the hydrological assessment was twofold: 1)
to characterize the geological and hydrogeological conditions associated with the proposed locations of
the Projects, and 2) to confirm project compliance with the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan (ORMCP),
specifically as to whether there is any potential for the Projects to cause any unacceptable impacts to local
groundwater quantity and quality. For the latter, the report concludes that although renewable energy projects are
exempt from the restrictions of the ORMCP, the proposed Projects, as designed in accordance with O. Reg. 359/09
and industry best practices, are still found to be in compliance with the stipulations outlined under the ORMCP.
